The New Golden Calf
By Menachem Ben David
One only has to study Jewish history to recognize that some of the allegedly
"modern" movements and ideologies have their roots in our ancient past. A good
example of this is the feminist movement, which is a modern manifestation of the
ancient egel hazahav ("golden calf").
The Book of Exodus explains how, after the Exodus from Egypt, some of the Jewish
people rebelled against the Torah and created an egel hazahav. According to our
sages, the worshippers of the egel hazahav did not deny the existence of God.
Instead they devised a corrupted and idolatrous method of worshipping Him. "And
they got up to revel" (Exodus 32:6). From this verse the Jewish sages inform us
that during the egel hazahav incident the people transgressed the three cardinal
sins of Judaism, that is, idolatry, sexual depravity, and murder.
The contemporary feminist movement aggressively promotes modern day
manifestations of the three cardinal sins, i.e. goddess worship, homosexuality
and lesbianism, and abortion on demand. Goddess worship and witchcraft clearly
violate numerous Biblical prohibitions. At the UN World Conference on Women in
1995, feminists constructed paper idols of goddesses and then conducted daily
worship programs of these idols. Homosexuality is prohibited and labeled an
abomination in the Bible. Abortion on demand, where the mother's life is not in
danger, is considered murder by our Torah sages.
The true feminist movement is not a reform movement aimed at achieving equality
between men and women. Rather it is a radical, totalitarian ideology, which
originated with the leftist movements of the 1960's. Similar to Marxism, which
attempts to explain the whole course of human history in terms of economics,
feminism attempts to interpret history as the oppression of women by men.
Feminism is deeply antagonistic to the traditional values and morality of
Judaism. It believes human nature is infinitely malleable and indoctrinates
young women with falsehoods and irrationality. Feminism is attempting the
complete restructuring of society, and sees religion as a male invention
designed to control women. It incites rage and hatred toward men, is deeply
hostile to the traditional family, and encourages women to become lesbians.
Despite the blatant contradictions between Judaism and
feminism, "Orthodox" feminists would have us believe that Jews can embrace the
perverse ideology of feminism without violating the Torah! Those who insist on
referring to themselves as Orthodox Jewish feminists are either deluded or else
just intellectually dishonest. Authentic Judaism, as transmitted to the Jewish
people by God at Mount Sinai, cannot be made to conform to the man-made or
women-made ideologies of the gentile world.
"Joshua heard the sound of the people shouting" (Exodus 32:17). The Torah
teaches that Joshua heard the loud uproar caused by the people singing and
dancing around the egel hazahav. In our time the uproar of "Orthodox" feminists
dancing around their egel hazahav grows louder. Militant "Orthodox" feminists
invent new minhagim ("customs") and demand that our God given Torah be made to
conform to the decadent, gentile society around us. "Orthodox" feminists
denigrate Jewish men and heap slander on our great Torah sages. They attempt to
use the leftist, secular state and lawsuits in the non-Jewish courts to deprive
Jewish men of their God given halachic rights.
The Jews are a small nation whose numbers are being decimated by low marriage
and birth rates. By embracing feminism, Jews are surely committing national
suicide! Those of us committed to the preservation of authentic Judaism must
have the intellectual and moral courage to condemn and reject the shouting
feminists. Our failure to stand up against perverse movements calling themselves
"Orthodoxy" could result in the gradual destruction of authentic Judaism.
